2008 Digital Technology, Digital Democracy, Culture and Ethics Conference: Call for Papers
Date: 2008/01/14 - 2008/03/27
Place: International Conference Hall at Academic Research Building, National Taiwan University of Arts
Website:
On March 26 and 27, 2008, the Department of Radio and Television at National Taiwan University of Arts will hold the “2008 Digital Technology, Digital Democracy, Culture and Ethics Conference” at the university’s International Conference Hall.

The growth of the digital content industries in Taiwan has impacted the country’s technology development and its culture. Accordingly, the conference aims to survey the relationship between industries, policies, digital contents and consumption. Broadband company representatives, policy researchers working in government, and scholars in Taiwan are invited to give speeches in the conference. After the speeches, an interactive seminar will begin in which the audience, on-site professors and students are provided a chance to discuss related issues with the panel of professionals and scholars.

Following the above activities, the conference will proceed with paper presentation, guest commentaries, and Q&A sessions. The themes of the conference and the paper presentation include “the Digital Broadband Industry and Policy,” “Digital Democracy and Technology,” “Digital Contents, Consumption and Ethnics.” Although the topics are divided into three categories, they are all well-related with each other while being contrasting in a way.

In addition, the conference will pay special attention to “Digital Democracy,” a term which perhaps has been ignored in Taiwan in the past. The phrase was originated from the concepts of “cultural will” and “cultural democracy” discussed in the Western Media and Cultural Studies. It is the hope of the organizer to push the research on these particular issues and their implications. Also, the conference is an occasion to share the wisdom of the scholars and experts who devote their efforts to discover the impacts and influences that technology development and cultural changes have on a digital society. Finally, the conference will investigate both the science and social issues related to the development of digital technology in order to awaken public interest in science education.
